On April 5, Wesleyan hosted Science Saturday for about 55 area school children.
Wesleyan’s Science Outreach Club members and students enrolled in the CHEM 214 course, “Informal Science Education for Elementary School Students,” worked with Wesleyan faculty and staff to organize the event.
Pictured, Vacek Miglus, lab technician and curator of the Physics Department, opened the event with demonstrations and experiments, including collapsing a 55-gallon steel drum. Alex Bigger-Allen ’14 demonstrated chemical reactions that make fireworks under water.
Wesleyan students taught the children how to make objects glow in the dark.
Participants experimented with optics by making cameras and kaleidoscopes.
