
Cartoonist and author Alison Bechdel, the 2012 Jacob Julien Visiting Writer, spoke in Russell House at Wesleyan on Sept. 19. Her most recent book, released in May 2012, is a graphic novel called “Are You My Mother?”

Originally known for her long-running comic strip “Dykes To Watch Out For,” Bechdel won critical acclaim for her 2006 graphic memoir “Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic.” “Fun Home” was hailed as one of the best books of 2006 by The New York Times, The Times of London, Publishers Weekly, Time, and New York Magazine, won the 2007 Eisner Award for Best Reality-Based Work, and was a finalist for the 2006 National Book Critics Circle Award.
